Seems like we are going to have another relatively mild summer! However, there will be some hot days to come. I want to remind you to have your air conditioning system checked if the air is not as cool as it should be. Also, have your cooling system serviced for optimum performance.

As of January 1, 2010 all diesel powered vehicles are required to have a smog check for registration renewal or transfer of ownership. If you are chosen this year and you have an older model vehicle it is a good idea to have a pre-check performed first. The test has different criteria than for a gas powered vehicle. Please call if you have questions.

Most of the later model vehicles use a timing belt in place of the old style timing chain. Timing belts are made of a fiber composition and require replacing at certain mileage intervals. Depending on the vehicle it is usually between 60K and 100K. The newer models have gone to multi-cam motors to increase performance. The problem with this type of motor is when the timing belt fails the result is catastrophic motor damage. These are very expensive major engine repairs that can be avoided by replacing the timing belt at the proper mileage interval. Tip of the month:  Tip… Open your hood and inspect your air conditioner condenser located in front of the radiator. With the use of a garden hose and sprayer nozzle clean off all the debris and bugs. This will help your A/C system work more efficiently. Also, always run your A/C vent on recirculate and the blower at medium speed. This allows the air inside the vehicle to be cooled more efficiently by not bringing in the hotter outside air. Tip… If you do not use a major brand gasoline it is a good idea to add a fuel additive every third tank or so. This helps keep the fuel pump and other components clean. Be sure and have your fuel filter replaced at least every 30 thousand miles. This reduces stress to the fuel pump.
